Boxer Artillery

Another small project completed today which is good. Finishing things that have been hanging about is quite therapeutic to say nothing of actually getting stuff done.

This one is an artillery piece for the Boxer rebels, part of my 55 Days at Peking project which has been somewhat stalled of late. I got a bit sick of it for a while having done not much else but I'm starting to find some interest again.

Not sure what's next so you'll have to wait and see every bit as much as I will. :-)

Freshly painted Imaginations Hussars

Full of nasty germs and half-blown away things have been moving slower than a very slow thing in low gear here at Chez Millsy of late.

Having said that, I've managed to clear the decks somewhat the last 36 hours or so and have finished another unit of cavalry for my Imaginations project which has been hanging about half-painted for quite some time. See them in all the glory here...

Kansu Braves!

Still plugging away at the seemingly endless stream of Boxers for my 55 Days at Peking Project.
This batch of eighteen Kansu Braves, armed with a variety of hand weapons and half a dozen rifles will form higher quality enemies for the legation troops.

I tried something I don't normally do and used a pen to outline the yellow borders on their clothing, rather than try and paint thin black lines everywhere. Overall I'm not unhappy with the outcome although drawing even lines across bumpy folded fabric isn't necessarily much more "clean" than painting. However, you can't argue with the time required which is about 25% of that required to achieve the same result.

Next up... finish the Boxer artillery sitting on the painting desk and then a diversion into a commission job for a couple of weeks. Hopefully by the time that's done my US Marines should have arrived and I can paint something different for the project instead of Boxers.

Millsy

More Boxers and more Finished Boxer Terrain

More progress on Boxers and terrain to go with them this weekend. I've managed to finish off the bamboo stands, cherry trees and template dogs I started last week. I've also completed another 12 Boxers with melee weapons and 12 with firearms. Just basing to go on those which is a doddle and will get done through the week.

In total I have 10 cherry trees and 6 stands of bamboo but I've saved about 25% of the bamboo for inclusion on various other terrain items like gardens. The cherry trees seem pretty fragile and the blossom falls off quite readily but I can save it up and re-glue later I guess.

Next up painting-wise I think it will be some Kansu Braves and maybe the cannon. I need a break from painting so much variation. It takes a lot longer as you're constantly switching colours, cleaning up and checking you're not duplicating colour schemes too often. Something uniform will be a pleasant change!

Paint Table Saturday

Inspiration and consequently perspiration has been somewhat lacking at Chez Millsy of late. Nothing especially wrong, just whenever I stand at the door to the room where I paint I can also see the couch in front of the telly. And, well, the rest as they say is history.

Today, however, things have been different. A couple of packages du jour this week have perked my interest and I'm back into the 55 Days at Peking project with a vengeance. Today I've been painting up more Boxers...

And also some Temple Dogs from Ainsty Castings...

I've also put together a bunch more greenery and er pinkery(?) in the form of stands of bamboo and cherry blossoms, having seen Mr Awdry's wonderful effort on same...

Finally I've picked up a handful of beads which will do nicely as planters and/or lanterns...

That's it for today. Back to the paint table!

Cheers,
Millsy
